Workshop description: After hosting the very popular But I Don't Do Mental Health Interpreting workshop for WAVLI in June, 2024, Roger Williams is back with his workshop on dysfluency!
For a variety of factors, ranging from educational deprivation to co-occurring disabilities to substance abuse, linguistic heterogeneity is much greater in the Deaf community than in the hearing community. Interpreters in community settings including healthcare and social services encounter clients who demonstrate some type of dysfluency on a daily basis, yet often lack the tools to respond to the challenge in an effective manner. This workshop will provide a framework to understand and describe different types of dysfluency as well as provide an overview of available tools to deal with these situations.
ASL-English Interpreter & Associate Member – $40.00
Deaf Interpreter & Student Member – $35.00
Non-Member Registration – $50.00
This workshop will be held remotely via Zoom (link will be provided prior to workshop), and facilitated in ASL. Registration will be limited to 100 participants.
