Due to the nature of the content, registration is open to ASL-English Interpreters with a minimum of five years experience.
This training is geared towards legal interpreting in general, not only court work. This could include examinations of discovery, human rights tribunals, ICBC claims, working with police, scenarios encountered in VRS, MCFD appointments, etc. At this time, we are aware that this course does not qualify RSLIs to work in the courts, however we are working towards having it recognized in the future.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
This course offers a strong foundation for working in diverse legal environments - from initial law-enforcement encounters, courtroom and administrative tribunals. You'll gain an understanding of procedural stages, the legal and justice system, related terminology and practical skills to work both inside and outside the courtroom. By the end of the course, participants will be able to confidently navigate these legal processes. Please see the attached flyer for full details.
